Brussels, 30/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 30 July, the European Commission announced that it had selected 106 projects to benefit from a funding envelope in excess of €320 million to improve transport infrastructure across Europe. The projects are related to the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) programme.
The call under the multi-annual framework 2013 spent €230 million financing 52 high-priority projects of the TEN-T network, focusing on five areas: air traffic management (6 projects, €9.39 million), the European rail traffic management system (10 projects, €37.63 million), intelligent transport systems (6 projects, €52.81 million), the motorways of the sea (15 projects, €78.10 million) and the priority projects (15 projects, €52.07 million).
The annual call for 2013 allowed a total of 54 projects to be funded, covering various modes of transport, with emphasis on the “de-carbonisation” of transport. €90.7 million have been mobilised for two priorities: 1) studies concerning the acceleration/facilitation of the implementation of TEN-T projects (27 projects selected, €27.03 million); 2) measures to promote innovation and new technologies for transport infrastructure and facilities contributing to de-carbonisation or the reduction of the external costs in general (27 projects selected, €63.66 million in EU funding).
The projects will be monitored by the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency, working together with the project beneficiaries across the member states and under the auspices of the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission.
These TEN-T selection decisions pave the way for the first calls for proposals which will be issued under the transport plank of the Connecting Europe Facility in September 2014. (LC)
