Postponement of DCFTA talks confirmed

Brussels, 10/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - The fifth negotiating session between Morocco and the European Union on a Deep and Comprehensive Free-Trade Agreement (DCFTA) has been postponed until further notice, according to a joint press release published on Wednesday 9 July. This announcement confirms our previous report of a pause for reflection (see EUROPE 11109).

The press release explains that the postponement is necessary in order to “launch studies accompanying the negotiations on certain sectors that will be covered by the future CDFTA”. Their results “will be taken into consideration during the negotiations”. According to this same source, technical meetings will continue during this period in an effort to ensure the continuity of the negotiating process. Four negotiating sessions have taken place since March 2013 when the discussions were first launched. (FB)
