01/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - First success for SESAR, the technical pillar of the Single European Sky. The public-private SESAR partnership has been able to successfully carry out a series of changes to modernise air traffic management. This involves a pilot project combining innovative technologies with more efficient operational procedures in order to reduce aircraft fuel consumption (more direct flights) and optimising the way in which air navigation services are provided. Siim Kallas, European Commissioner for Transport, said that “the pilot project constitutes a major stage in the SESAR project, in view of completing the single European sky. It is even more important that it demonstrates that we are able to operate the changes needed and prepared to make them”. (MD)
