01/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - The Electronic Leaders Group (ELG) unveils action plan. The ELG brings together companies such as Alcatel, STMicroelectronics and NXP and, on Tuesday 1 July, it unveiled its plan for implementing the industrial roadmap presented in the middle of last February for the areas of microelectronics and nanoelectronics. It recommends that pioneering projects in the automobile, energy, life sciences and health sectors are set up. The same goes for creating “global reference zones” that will help explore emerging technologies and put in place a polyvalent network of skills centres, with funding from the EU of €9 billion and €10 billion from private investors. Finally, the group considers that companies should invest €20 billion to increase production of microchips in Europe and help in their innovation. (JK)
