01/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU calls on North Korea to fulfil its international missile obligations. On Monday 30 June, the EU said it was “deeply concerned” about the launch of short-range ballistic missiles by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 29 June. “The firing of ballistic missiles constitutes a clear violation of the DPRK's international obligations as set out in particular under UN Security Council Resolutions 1718 and 1874”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. “We call upon the DPRK to comply fully, unconditionally and without delay with all its obligations under the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions”, the spokesperson stated, urging the DPRK “to refrain from any action that could further increase regional tensions”. The DPRK launched two ballistic missiles which reportedly landed off the coast of Japan. They were short-range scud missiles with a range of around 500 kilometres. According to South Korea, three other missiles were launched by Pyongyang on 26 June. (CG)
