Brussels, 26/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 25 June, the Turkish parliament ratified the readmission agreement signed last December with the EU, which obliges Turkey to “take back” onto its soil Turkish migrants or migrants from other third countries reaching the EU via Turkey. The European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström, welcomed the decision on Twitter, describing it as “very good news” which paves the way for further cooperation on the question of lifting visa obligations on Turkish citizens. Turkish Minister for European Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu called on the EU to lift these obligations as soon as possible, speaking out against the double discrimination from which his country suffers, as the only EU candidate country which does not enjoy a relaxed visa regime.
