Brussels, 26/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 25 June, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to EDF's planned acquisition of Dalkia France, Dalkia Investissement and the other subsidiaries of Dalkia in France (“Dalkia”). EDF is France's primary producer and supplier of electricity, while Dalkia offers a full range of energy services. The two companies therefore operate primarily in related areas in the energy sector. The Commission looked at the effects of the transaction on the markets where EDF and Dalkia are both present. The Commission found that the increase in market share was limited and that there would still be a sufficient number of competitors after the merger to prevent any distortion of competition to the detriment of consumers in the European Economic Area. For the generation and wholesale supply of electricity in France, Dalkia does not levy any significant competitive constraints on EDF. The Commission says that much of the electricity generated by Dalkia is bought by EDF under the long-term purchase requirements on EDF under French legislation. (EL)
