17/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - EIB loan to extend gas transport network in Poland. On Tuesday 17 June, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced a loan of €98 million to the Polish gas transmission operator Gaz-System SA, for the extension of a gas pipeline between Lwowek and Odolanow, in eastern Poland. This project, for which the total approved funding is €120 million, will help to reinforce the EU's North-South gas corridor and the connection to alternative sources of gas supply, the EIB says in a press release. This gas pipeline, which will be 170 kilometres long, will make it possible to transport additional volumes of gas in Poland, also from the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie, via the Polish transmission system up to the borders with the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine. Its construction will be complete by 2017. (EH)
