AQR - evaluation could flag up weaknesses

Brussels, 23/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - The most critical shortcomings facing Eurozone banks could be revealed ahead of the communication, in October, of the definitive results of the banks' asset quality review (AQR) currently being carried out by the ECB.

“In some individual cases, weaknesses may be discovered during the process - weaknesses for which corrective action cannot be postponed until October”, said Sabine Lautenschläger, vice president of the single supervision committee at the ECB, in Madrid on Friday 23 May at a conference organised by Expansion. It would then be up to the national regulator, which is responsible for the supervision of the said bank until the ECB takes on the role of single supervisor in early November, to impose measures to correct the weaknesses identified, she added.
