Brussels, 06/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - The services of the European commissioner for regional development are currently actively working on the macro-regions.
A communication on the governance of the macro-regional strategies in general is to be presented in the very near future, by the end of the month of May. The strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian region will then be presented shortly afterwards in Brussels in early June, also in the form of a communication. This macro-region will bring together four member states of the EU (Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia) and four third countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia). Discussions are currently focusing on the possibility of leaving the door open for other countries of the region at a later date. In this scenario, the number of non-member countries of the EU could therefore be higher than that of EU countries within a macro-region. (MD)
