Steep drop in Chinese investments in Europe in 2013. - The year 2013 saw a further increase in Chinese foreign investment, which stood at $96 billion, compared to $77 billion in 2012. This figure represents 82% of foreign direct investment (FDI) hosted by China last year, a figure which is up by six points. Although in the previous two years, Europe was a destination of choice, it has now been largely overtaken by North America. In 2013, Europe received $6.5 billion in Chinese capital, compared to $12.5 billion in 2012. North America received $26.1 billion, up from just $9 billion in 2012. (IL)
