Brussels, 31/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 31 March, the Council announced that two new negotiating chapters had been opened that day with Montenegro at the second meeting of the accession conference at deputy level. The EU and Montenegro have opened Chapter 7 on copyright and neighbouring rights, industrial property rights and the enforcement of intellectual property rights. Chapter 10 aims to eliminate obstacles to the effective operation of the internal market in electronic communications services and networks, promote competition and safeguard consumer interests in the sector, including the universal availability of basic modern services. The EU stresses the importance it attaches to protecting freedom and media pluralism.
An accession conference at ministerial level will take place in June.
Nine of the 35 chapters have been opened to date. Accession talks began in June 2012. (CG)
