28/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Port of Salerno gets €71.1 million in investment aid. On Thursday 27 March, the European Commission decide that €71.1 million funding from the European Regional Development Fund for an investment project at the port of Salerno in Italy (Campania Region) is in line with EU state aid rules. The project will further EU transport objectives, such as preserving a wide range of integrated maritime connections in Europe, without unduly distorting competition in the single market. In February 2014, Italy notified its plans to finance this project using EU funding. The investment will enable the port authority to ensure safer entry for larger vessels by expanding the port's entrance and dredging the seabed and the access canal to the port. It will also consolidate part of one of the existing docks. (EL)
