Brussels, 28/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Compound animal feed production could fall by 1% in 2014 in the EU, predicts the European Compound Feed Manufacturers' Federation (known by its French acronym, FEFAC), in a press release issued on 26 March.
FEFAC anticipates that the production of poultry feed will remain stable in 2014 but that there will be a drop of 0.5% for pig feed and 1% for cattle feed. In 2013, European compound feed production stood at 153.8 million tonnes, a slight drop of 0.2% compared to 2012. Pig feed was down 1.7%, whilst cattle feed (+0.8%) and poultry feed (+0.6%) grew. Among the main producers of animal feeding Europe, the United Kingdom (+5%) and Poland (+3%) stand out for the year 2013, whereas France (the second-largest producer in the EU), Spain (number three) and the Netherlands lost about 1%. Germany (number one) and Italy maintained stable tonnages. (LC)
