Brussels, 10/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Morocco's minister for energy, mines, water and the environment, Abdelkader Amara, recently affirmed that Morocco wanted to see the “emergence of an integrated Maghreb energy market and sustainable development of the energy sector at a regional level” through the “integration of the country in the Euro-Mediterranean energy system”. “The advanced status Morocco benefits from with the EU will also help promote the full integration of the Moroccan energy market and allow for greater opening up of the market in EU countries to Moroccan green electricity”. The minister did, however, regret that “the exploitation of energy cooperation potential between Maghreb countries is not meeting expectations”. As an example, he highlighted the case of trade with its neighbour, the powerful energy market actor in oil and gas. With Algeria, the balance of trade in electricity is “zero” and interconnection is simply playing a role in mutual aid. (FB)
