Controversial delegated acts ahead of agreement on green fuel

Brussels, 10/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament appears to be taking a trialogue agreement on green fuels hostage over issues relating to delegated acts. A further trialogue session will be held on Wednesday 19 March on a network of recharging stations for alternative fuels, following the breakdown of the trialogue meeting of Wednesday 5 March.

The broad outlines of the European strategy to boost fuels such as gas, hydrogen and electricity are, however, the subject of consensus between the Council and Parliament. Negotiators are believed to be in agreement over the member states setting their own national objectives for recharging stations on their own territory (instead of detailed quotas laid down by the Commission).

The Parliament appears to have demands over institutional issues specific to the delegated acts. It appears to be a matter of ensuring the Parliament's presence on the implementing committee. According to a source close to dossier, however, the Commission is wary of setting a precedent. But whilst there is no agreement on everything, there is no agreement on anything. A number of technical meetings are to be held ahead of the next trialogue. (MD)
