Brussels, 04/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - The sixth Summit of Regions and Cities, which is organised by the Committee of the Regions, will take place in Athens on 7-8 March, in association with the Greek Presidency of the EU. The first day of the summit will open the debate on European efforts to boost growth and employment at regional and local level. The emphasis will also be laid on subjects specific to Greece. The second day will be devoted to the European elections, and to the role of the local and regional governments in plugging the gap between the European citizens and the EU. Here again, the Greek point of view will be in focus. The debate will be broadcast on Greek national television and feature contributions from the Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso. Theer are 700 delegates expected to attend the summit, including representatives of the regional governments and European civil society. (MD)
