Brussels, 04/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Algeria and Spain have made a proposed the UN to adopt a water strategy in the Mediterranean and to act at regional, national and local level, confirming a request already put forward on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in 2013 and in the framework of the 5+5 group (countries of the Western Mediterranean). This information was relayed by the Algerian media at the occasion of the meeting, in Valencia (Spain) on Thursday 27 February, of the first seminar on water in the Western Mediterranean, which was opened by the head of Algerian diplomacy, Ramtane Lamamra, and his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel García-Margallo. The aim is to promote a sensible management of this increasingly scarce resource. (FB)
