Brussels, 21/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Union plans to develop a range of services for regularised immigrants with the right to enjoy integration provisions, EU Ambassador to Morocco Rupert Joy announced on 20 February, as reported by the media of the country. This will be carried out by means of restrictive measures against illegal immigration and by shoring up the role of Moroccan nationals legally settled in Europe. “The idea is to reinforce the policy of incentives to productive investment” towards this category of Moroccan citizens and to grant them support in business creation, Joy explained.
The process will be central to the mobility agreement being discussed. The Ambassador told the newspaper L'Économiste that the EU has this year “started dialogue with the Moroccan authorities to adapt its funding opportunities to the new Moroccan migration policy, which in particular provides for the regularisation and integration of refugees, subject to specific criteria”.
In June of last year, Morocco and the EU entered into the partnership for mobility, committing to overall cooperation on migration issues, with considerable financial resources from the EU and the participating member states, he stressed in his interview with the media.
In fact, Joy added, “two negotiations are scheduled for this year, one on a 'readmission agreement' and another on facilitating the process to grant visas”. Readers may recall, however, that Morocco, like most of the countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean, is reluctant to sign a readmission agreement. (FB/transl.fl)
