21/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Greenland to join the Kimberley process. On 21 February, the Council of the EU adopted a decision setting out the rules for the participation of Greenland (an autonomous region of Denmark, situated in the North Atlantic) in the Kimberley process certification scheme for international trade in rough diamonds. The Kimberley process was set up in 2007 to stem the trade in conflict diamonds. Through this Council decision, Greenland will be able to export rough diamonds accompanied by an EU certificate issued for the purposes of the Kimberley process certification scheme. On Thursday, the Council amended Regulation 2368/2002 on the EU's implementation of the Kimberley process so as to extend its scope of application to Greenland. (EH/transl.fl)
