Brussels, 11/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - The EU is apparently no longer the main outlet for Moroccan citrus fruit exports. According to figures given by the Association of Citrus Fruit Exporters (ASPAM), Russia has become Morocco's top customer with 60% of Morocco's exported volume, the USA receives 10-15%, and the EU - which was once at the top - now only receives 30%. Sales to Russia in 2012-2013 (nearly 200,000 tonnes of mandarins) have risen by 52% compared with previous marketing years. Europe nevertheless remains the main target market for Moroccan fruit and vegetables (70%) although Morocco is seeking to diversify its outlets. Morocco's export strategy is reportedly being redefined so as to no longer focus on traditional markets but rather those of Asia. (FB/transl.fl)
