Tehran wants fair and constructive negotiations

Brussels, 11/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 11 February, Iran's President Hassan Rohani stated that his country is “determined to conduct fair and constructive negotiations in the framework of the international rules” concerning the Iranian nuclear programme, and he hopes “the others also have this kind of resolve”.

In his speech made on the 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, Rohani affirmed that the option of military action against his country, should the nuclear negotiations fail, was an “illusion”. “I say clearly to those who have the illusion that they have on their table the option of a threat against our nation that they must change their glasses, because the option of military action against Iran exists on no table in world”, he said. US leaders have nevertheless stated that the military option should be maintained should the political route end in failure.

The negotiations between Iran and the E3+3 (Germany, France, United Kingdom and China, United States, Russia) are due to resume in Vienna on 18 February. Rohani believes these negotiations are “a historic test for Europe and the USA which have decreed brutal, illegal and bad sanctions against Iran” (our translation throughout). (CG/transl.fl)
