Brussels, 27/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 21 January, Europe's Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) welcomed the European Commission's recent communication on blue energy (see EUROPE 11000). According to the CPMR, the action plan “rightly highlights the long-term potential of Marine Renewables, be it in terms of energy security, of EU export opportunities, of creating many high-quality jobs and providing new job opportunities in existing industrial sectors”. The communication also highlights the positive territorial impact of developing ocean energy sources. The CPMR supports the two-stage action plan and has no doubt that many of its members will wish to contribute to the shaping of an “Integrated Roadmap” for Blue Energy. However, the CPMR regrets the recent reduction in the TEN-T budget (2014-20), which it says will make the ambitions expressed in this communication all the more difficult to achieve. (LC/transl.fl)
