Promoting renewables

Brussels, 11/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - In Brussels on Tuesday 10 December, the European Investment Bank (EIB), in association with the Mediterranean Energy Observatory (MOE), held a seminar focusing on seeking greater energy efficiency to “improve the overall competitive position” of the Euro-Mediterranean region and to help create jobs there.

According to the organisers, the great challenge for the region will be to face demand for energy which, if it continues at its current pace, “could rise by 40% in the next two decades” in this region, “driven by economic growth and population increases”. The prospect will be “costly”, possibly even “unsustainable”, for the countries concerned.

The future, they argue, lies in “renewables”. This kind of alternative energy may diminish the anticipated burden. The aim is to reduce dependency on imports and reduce environmental costs. (FB/transl.fl)
