11/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - European Parliament delegation to Iran. A European Parliament delegation will be in Iran on 12-15 December. Cornelia Ernst (GUE, Germany), Josef Weidenholzer (S&D, Austria), Marietje Schaake (ALDE, Netherlands) and Isabelle Durant (Greens/EFA, Belgium) will be led by Tarja Cronberg (Greens/EFA, Finland) and will attempt to re-establish inter-parliamentary relations with members of the Iranian Majlis (the parliament). The delegation will also raise issues concerning human rights, including the protection of minorities and the promotion of democratic values, and it will meet the two 2012 Sakharov Prize winners, Jafer Panahi and Nasrin Sotoudeh. In October 2012, the delegation visit was cancelled when the MEPs learned, before boarding the plane, that they could not meet the two 2012 Sakharov Prize winners (see EUROPE 10720).
