Brussels, 29/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 29 November, EU28 ambassadors endorsed the informal agreement reached on 26 November in trialogue on the arrangements for applying the 95 gm/km target fixed by EU legislation for CO2 emissions from newly registered cars by 2020 (see EUROPE 10972). This is the beginning of the end of a long saga in which Germany managed to have the vote of approval for the institutional agreement concluded on 25 June postponed, then the dossier reopened and renegotiated. The new agreement, which defers until end 2020 total application of the 95g target and allows extension of the delay to 2022 via a system of premiums for clean cars, was unanimously endorsed by Coreper. The European Parliament must now confirm the compromise in January 2014. If such is the case, formal adoption of the regulation by Council will come in its wake. (AN/transl.jl)
