Brussels, 29/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - The “quartet” composed of two trade unions, UGTT for the workers and UTICA for the employers, along with the Tunisian league for human rights and the Bar association, in charge of “national dialogue” for addressing the crisis in Tunisia, greeted EU ambassadors on Thursday 17 November, among whom were the European delegate, Laura Baeza. They aimed to assess the situation.
“The EU is very concerned by the political crisis in Tunisia which has been going on for four months and three days now, since the assassination of Mohamed Brahmi” (a member of the democrat opposition), said Baeza, cited par the national media. She hoped an agreement would be found “in the very near future” on a new constitution, so that elections might be organised within a “reasonable” timeframe, and for a sound government to be set in place with a 4-5 year mandate in order to “bring the country out of the economic and social crisis” (our translation throughout).
