Ministers focus on public-private and public-public partnerships

Brussels, 29/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - European research ministers will meet in Brussels on Tuesday 3 December to reach agreement in principle on five planned public-private partnerships (PPP) and four public-public partnerships under the EU's R&D and innovation programme known as Horizon 2020.

The five PPP will cover the following five areas: innovative medicines, aeronautics, bio-industry, fuel cells and hydrogen and electronics. The existing air traffic control PPP will continue in a different form. The public-public partnerships will cover the treatment of poverty-related diseases with clinical trials in Africa, active and assisted living, metrology, innovative medicines and R&D for small and medium-sized businesses.

ITER. The ministers will try to reach agreement in principle on amendments to the 2007 Council of Ministers' decision establishing a European joint undertaking for ITER (called “Fusion for Energy”) in order to provide a better basis for the financing of the activities of the joint undertaking for the period 2014-2020. ITER funding will now form part of the multiannual financial framework for 2014-2020 rather than of the Euratom Treaty. (JK/transl.fl)
