Brussels, 22/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 22 November, the European Commission adopted fresh support of €236 million for Turkey from the 2013 national programme for Turkey under the instrument for pre-accession assistance (component I: transition assistance and institition building). The funding is to support reform efforts, including in the fields of “independent, impartial and efficient” justice, the fight against organised crime, fundamental rights, migration, asylum and border management. The funding will also be for reforms in terms of energy and climate change, water management, social development, agriculture, fisheries, rural development and food security.
European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle hoped that his support “will help foster further reforms that will contribute to the progress in the accession process”. (CG/transl.fl)
