Council quite pleased with work of Eurojust

Brussels, 19/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - In conclusions on 15 November, the Council of Ministers of the EU welcomed the progress made by Eurojust “in identifying and overcoming obstacles to legal cooperation in the area of criminal law” and underlined the “positive development both quantitatively and qualitatively of the coordinating and facilitating role played by Eurojust”. The Council welcomes the “support provided by Eurojust to the joint investigation teams and underlines the fact that the number of these joint teams set up in 2012 increased”. Funding made available to finance the joint investigation team project increased from €265,161 in 2010 to €815,886 in 2012, making it an effective instrument for promoting the development of this cooperation tool.

The Commission and other stakeholders will also examine the opportunities provided to Eurojust for providing financial support to the setting up and operational running of the joint investigation teams. Improvements are also expected to be introduced by member states on using Eurojust to execute the European arrest warrant (EAW), cooperation on which has not been good. (SP/transl.fl)
