19/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - Libor Roucek welcomes smooth unfolding of elections. Libor Roucek of the Czech Republic, who is vice-president of the S&D for enlargement and neighbourhood policies, praised, on 19 November, the “successful conduct of Sunday's elections” (17 November) to the north of Kosovo in the three polling stations where incidents had occurred on 3 November. He described the elections as marking “a historic moment” in the “normalisation process” between Serbia and Kosovo (see EUROPE 10965). The elections “mark a historic moment for communities in northern Kosovo, who will now have a legitimately elected local council to represent their interests”, Roucek added. In his view, this gives fresh momentum to implementation of the 19 April agreement and brings Serbia and Kosovo closer to the EU. “The successful local elections must now be followed by accelerated progress in the European integration process”, the MEP explained.
