Brussels, 19/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - The 7th Environmental Action Plan (EAP) setting out the main thrust and priorities of EU environmental policy up to 2020, has been adopted. Formal adoption of the text took place without debate on the sidelines of the Ecofin Council on 15 November. The action plan, “Living well, within the limits of our planet”, identifies nine priority goals, headed by environmental protection and enhancing ecological resilience, support for sustainable and efficient growth and protection against environmental threats to health. It contains a whole raft of commitments to improve the environment and for launching a new European Ecological Deal, which will bring greener growth and create jobs. On 24 October, the European Parliament formally approved the agreement negotiated with the Council on this programme, which will be published in the Official Journal before the end of the year (see EUROPE 10950).
