€840,000 in aid for Spain

Brussels, 19/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - With adoption in Strasbourg on Tuesday 19 November of the report by Andrej Plenkovic on a request for a financial contribution to be made after 630 redundancies in 140 companies operating in the Comunidad Valenciana, the European Parliament approved aid of €840,000 from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (GAF).

The Comunidad Valenciana was strongly affected by the crisis with the rate of unemployment reaching 29.19% during the first quarter 2013.

Redundancies in 140 manufacturing companies of the Comunidad Valenciana (ES52) are linked to major changes made in the structure of global trade, which led to a rise in imports into the EU of other non-metallic mineral products and a reduction in the EU's share of the world market for the manufacturing of such products.

Measures cofinanced by the GAF (profiling, professional guidance and advice, training, improved proficiency, aid for intensive job seeking, aid to entrepreneurship, incentive measures, contribution to travelling costs, aid for company start-ups) will allow 300 workers to find a place back on the labour market.
