29/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - De Gucht wants to win battle on standards. In an interview with French daily newspaper Libération on 29 October, European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht underlines his ambition to develop - through the free-trade agreements concluded with Canada and being negotiated with the US - “standards destined to become world standards”. “Isn't a market economy based on our standards better than one based on those of China? The great battle under way is effectively one of norms and standards. With these two countries, we will provide the critical mass that allows us [to achieve this]”, De Gucht states. (EH/transl.fl)
