Major events for Mediterranean economy

Brussels, 29/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - The annual meeting of Mediterranean economic leaders organised by ASCAME, an association of the Euromed and Unimed chambers of commerce for support of economic activity, in liaison with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Catalan local authorities, will be held in Barcelona from 20-22 November.

This, the tenth, meeting will deal with university-business cooperation. According to the organisers, key issues will be covered such as good governance, youth employment, SME development and human resources by sharing best practices and proposing concrete projects and by creating new opportunities.

ASCAME and FEMOZA (world free and special economic zones platform) above all plan to announce an action programme to improve the absorption of foreign investment and provide a secure and comfortable environment in which future projects may prosper. The free zones, in addition to the advantages and assets that they present, must strengthen their role further as providers of infrastructure and services. The forum will review the strengths and weaknesses inherent to the free zones of the region.

Islamic finances will also be covered. The organisers say that, today, this is one of the biggest growth sectors within the international financial system. Business women will be called upon to express their views, and a permanent platform of dialogue and discussion will be presented. (FB/transl.jl)
