15/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - “Sweep” operation bears fruit. Due to the joint action of member states and the European Commission, 116 online amusement sites (games, books, videos and music) out of 172 identified as failing to respect EU consumer protection legislation, have improved their standards, according to a statement by the Commission on 14 October. There are 45 internet sites which are still subject procedures and in five other cases, the infringements did not lead to them being pursued by member states because they were deemed as minor. Commissioner Neven Mimica was delighted with the efficiency of this “sweep” operation which inspected 330 sites and whose initial results were published in December 2012 (see EUROPE 10746).
