Brussels, 14/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - Spain is looking to put pressure on MEPs so that they approve the fisheries agreement with Morocco that was thrown out the first time round at the end of 2011. Agriculture Minister Miguel Arias Canete has made it an “affair of state”. The media report that in his comments he has warned against the “sometimes extreme” views which deny the “legitimate” and “historic” right of Spanish fishermen.
At the opening of the Agropolis Forum in Cordoba last weekend, he told the press that he had written letters to the country's various authorities, including elected representatives in Madrid and in the European Parliament, calling for sort of general campaign. Letters have also been sent to MEPs to support the fisheries agreement which is, he said, “very important to the Andalusian fleet” (our translation throughout). (FB/transl.fl)
