Paris suggests tax on transfer of personal information

Brussels, 20/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - France suggests that the European Union should look into taxing companies that transfer personal information outside Europe by for instance sub-contracting to call centres outside the EU. The idea will be submitted to the European Summit on 24 and 25 October. France has drawn up a list of proposals to encourage the emergence of European giants in the digital world and to put in place a new tax system to tax profits made in the EU by non-European internet giants. It would like the introduction of a tax system to be examined with a view to ensuring that digital companies making profits in Europe actually pay tax to Europe, which would then be shared out among the member states. France will also be suggesting the preparation of a report into the option of taxing the sending of personal information outside the EU. (LC/transl.fl)
