Brussels, 13/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - There were 221.8 million in work in the EU27 in the second quarter of 2013, 145 million of them in the eurozone. This marks a 0.1% decrease on the first quarter in the eurozone, but no change in the EU27 over that same period. In Q213, there was a 1% fall in employment compared with the second quarter of 2012, however, in the eurozone (- 0.4% in the EU27).
The countries registering a fall in employment growth in the second quarter of 2013 are headed by Cyprus (-2.1%), Spain (-0.5%), the Netherlands, Slovenia and Slovakia (both -0.4%). The best growth in employment was recorded in Estonia (+1.5%), Lithuania and Portugal (both +0.8%), Luxembourg (+0.7%), the Czech Republic and Ireland (both +0.5%). (MD/transl.fl)
