31/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Minutes of ECB meetings may be made public, says Mario Draghi, the ECB president, describing this as a necessary stage in increasing transparency. At present, the minutes of meeting of the ECB's Governing Council are kept secret. Draghi said in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung that the ECB Executive Council will present a proposal to this effect to the Governing Council, which will be meeting on Thursday 1 August. On Monday 29 July, two members of the Executive Council, Benoît Coeuré and Joerg Asmussen, called for the minutes to be made public. In the past, the ECB has refused to publish them, fearing that this would pave the way for political pressure being exerted by governments. (LM/transl.fl)
