Single Sky 2+ on September informal meeting agenda

Brussels, 31/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The Single European Sky will be debated during the informal meeting of transport ministers organised by the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU in Vilnius on 16 September.

Putting this subject on the agenda is important, European Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas having, in June, presented the Single Sky 2+ package which is supposed to tackle implementation shortcomings for the European Single Sky and the nine airspace operating blocks. The transport ministers from France and Germany provided a sharp response by letter to the presentation of this package, which they deem pointless and premature. Ministerial level discussions will therefore be crucial with regard to the future of the European Single Sky. The Lithuanian Presidency intends to draft a progress report on the basis of the results of these discussions.

Kallas will take part in the discussions chaired by the Lithuanian minister for transport, Rimantas Sinkevicius. Representatives from the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will also take part in the meeting. (MD/transl.fl)
