Commission consults on driver training

Brussels, 18/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is launching a public consultation on the qualifications and training of road transport operatives.

The Commission is asking whether Directive 2003/59/EC on this subject has been able to respond to the objectives sought and whether other measures should be taken to improve it. It is planning a revision of this directive, but must first carry out preliminary assessments, including this public consultation. It is therefore taking advice from the main stakeholders in order to determine what needs to be clarified or changed. The questions relate to the importance of the directive, its scope and the exceptions it contains, access to the profession of driving and mutual recognition of training, as well as the structure of this training. The public consultation will run from 17 July to 25 October. (MD/transl.fl)
