Brussels, 18/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The environmental efforts being made by the EU and China may be translated into common opportunities for sustainable growth, say Commissioners Tajani (Industry) and Potocnik (Environment).
“How can we create the economic growth we all need and at the same time reduce pollution, secure clean water and reduce the wasteful use of natural resources? To this end, we will (…) discuss how we can best achieve green growth in Europe and China, as well as globally”, the two commissioners explain in a column published by China Daily, the day before their “growth mission” to Beijing on 18 and 19 July.
Sustainable development and clean technologies will be the focus of discussion between the two commissioners and the Chinese government. “It is crucial that we address these issues and that we do so together. Our future together, taking into account population growth and the growth in consumption, will be shaped by how well we manage existing limited resources, and whether we decide today to turn environmental protection into opportunities for sustainable growth”, they stress.
