Brussels, 15/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The EU's delegation in Tunis has indicated that the EU will make €32.9 million available to Tunisia as a donation for renovating and regenerating 119 different neighbourhoods in the country. This project will benefit almost 700,000 inhabitants by improving their living conditions. The first tranche of €11 million has just been paid to allow the work to begin.
The EU delegation also said that project implementation will be overseen by the French Development Agency (Agence française de développement, AFD) under a delegation agreement signed by the two parties on 2 July.
This donation constitutes the EU's contribution to the programme launched by Tunisia known as the “Programme Prioritaire d'Intégration des Quartiers Populaires”. The total cost of the project is €217.5 million and implementation will be carried out over a four-year period starting this year. It will be jointly funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the AFD. (FB/transl.fl)
