Government welcomes Füle's setting the record straight

Brussels, 15/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 12 July, the Georgian government welcomed the comments of Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle, who dispelled the myth of the weak chances of the EU-Georgian association agreement being initialled at the end of the year, and the myth of the government not pursuing pro-European reforms (see EUROPE 10887).

“The government of Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili welcomes the commissioner's effort to set the record straight that we are indeed on the right track with our reforms to bring Georgia closer to Europe “, said Tamar Chugoshvili, Ivanishvili's assistant on human rights and gender equality issues. He also said that the government and his country was committed to guaranteeing “full transparency” and working “closely” with the EU's special adviser on human rights, Thomas Hammarberg, to establish “due process” in consultation on the handling of past abuse - an area that the EU is following closely (see EUROPE 10801).
