01/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Ashton in Brunei for a ministerial on security in Asia. On 1-2 July, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton is participating in Brunei in the 20th ministerial meeting of the ASEAN regional forum. Bringing together the foreign affairs ministers from the Asian countries and neighbouring countries of the Pacific Ocean (USA, China, Russia, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, North Korea, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Sri Lanka) and from the EU with their counterparts from the ASEAN bloc (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma/Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam), the ASEAN regional forum deals with security in South East Asia. The situation on the Korean peninsula, maritime safety and political reforms in Burma/Myanmar were on the agenda of the ministers' work. (EH/transl.fl)
