Brussels, 15/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - Spain has a new centre designed to supply information to companies wishing to use satellite data provided by the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) via the Galileo constellation. The European Commissioner for Industry, Antonio Tajani, inaugurated the Loyola de Palacio GNSS service centre in Madrid on Tuesday 14 May, at a ceremony attended by the Spanish Transport Minister, Ana Pastor.
Galileo will support European industry, notably by allowing companies to develop applications and services using satellite technology. These companies will receive invaluable assistance from the centre, which will help to disseminate the information needed for the use of satellite data in various sectors, from agriculture to transport via cartography.
An investment of €34 million has got this centre up and running; €30 million of this came from the European Union. Between 30 and 50 qualified employees will be attached to this service centre, in addition to those who worked on its construction. (MD/transl.fl)
