Van Dalen MEP wants Kallas to change on river transport

Brussels, 19/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - Dutch Conservative MEP Peter Van Dalen has called on European Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas to tackle deterioration in the inland waterway sector. On 19 April, Van Dalen addressed a written question to Kallas asking the European Commission to examine if the sector is in structural crisis, and, if so, to initiate measures. His call comes against a backdrop of complaints from river transporters. Van Dalen therefore urges stakeholders, industry and the Commission to work actively to find solutions. He especially hopes for a gesture from Kallas as there is much trouble in the transport sector in Europe and he finds that Kallas is too quiet and has too much of a wait-and-see attitude. Van Dalen says that he is asking Kallas to provide options to develop opportunities in the face of the crisis in river transport. (MD/transl.fl)
