Füle says it is urgent to cooperate on European issues

Brussels, 08/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle has again urged Bosnia Herzegovina to make an effort to settle outstanding matters. “We had good discussions on the urgent need to move Bosnia and Herzegovina forward in the European integration process and on the positive role that Republika Srpska as one of the two entities of the country can play in this regard. There are outstanding issues which require further efforts”, he explained on Thursday 7 March after a meeting with the president of the Srpska Republika (RS) National Assembly, Igor Radojicic. The other Bosnian entity, the Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina, is going through further institutional turmoil.

Füle takes the view that the coordination mechanism agreement for European issues must be established as a matter of urgency and expects both communities to show proof of compromise concerning the technical details of the agreement. It is essential, he said, for all authorities of the country to carry out effective monitoring of the recommendations made under the terms of the EU/Bosnia-Herzegovina structured dialogue on justice. Although entry into force of the stabilisation and association agreement with the EU is now within reach, he said, it still requires the Bosnian constitution to come into line with the European Convention on Human Rights.
