Brussels, 08/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 7 March, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton called on all Yemenis to participate “constructively” in the national dialogue which begins on Monday 18 March. She also called on them to avoid any action which could “obstruct the process of adopting a new constitution and preparing for elections in February 2014.” “The national dialogue (…) will be a great step forward”, she said in a press release published after the Friends of Yemen meeting.
Ashton also reiterated that the international community was ready to help Yemen succeed in its political transition. Stating that the first signs of improved basic services are now visible, she said that the efforts should be pursued. “Security, political and economic reform go hand in hand. A lack of progress or delays in one sector has immediate effects on the chances of success in others”, she warned. (CG/transl.fl)
